The Harp School

The Harp School, Inc., under the direction of Artistic Director Carol McClure, BA, MCM, is a unique and internationally respected institution, dedicated to developing successful and accomplished musicians at the harp bench. Both by Ms. McClure's direct work with students, and her mentoring of Affiliate Teachers, the Harp School serves students from a wide region of the United States and Canada.

Harp School students currently hold the harp chairs in the youth orchestra programs of across the region from Indianapolis to Baton Rouge, and have been well-represented in All-State and Governor's School programs throughout the region for the past decade. 2005-2006 saw our students participating in the final rounds of the American Harp Society National Competition, and winning at state, regional, and national levels in Music Teachers National Association competitions. All of our students, once past beginning study, participate in the examinations of the Associated Board of the Royal Schools of Music. We currently have some twenty students on track for ABRSM diploma examinations in 2006-2007, and field the largest pool of harp students in the world for ABRSM exams on a semi-annual basis. Many of our high school graduates gain admission to their preferred university, often with substantial scholarships, based upon their musical and personal accomplishments achieved at The Harp School. Harp School University affiliations include both private and public colleges, such as Western Kentucky University and Union University.

These successes are achieved through a consistent commitment to highest European standards of pedagogy, including intensive study of technique, music theory, music history, sight reading and aural skills. Our goal is to create literate and well-rounded musicians, well-equipped to perform in a variety of situations, whether in recital, chamber and choral music, orchestra, weddings and receptions, or corporate worship.

Admission is by interview and audition, which enable both the student and teacher to make an informed decision about pursuing music study at The Harp School.
